I like the poem, but I really wish the phrase "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" would just die already. Many people who commit suicide deal with debilitating depression their entire lives, it's not just a few days of sadness that drive them to suicide. Exactly. I've struggled with this "temporary problem" for almost 25 years now. It fades sometimes, but it ALWAYS comes back. Killing myself is probably the only way I'll find peace. I don't think that the suggestion is that depression is a fleeting thing. I think it means that feelings severe enough to cause suicidal thoughts are usually temporary. And yes, I do suffer from depression, and yes I have been there. But, thankfully most people's suicidal thoughts are temporary. Just my opinion. Thank. You. Memories don't "go away". They aren't "temporary". In 44 years, I haven't found that ANYTHING contributing to my feeling this way is "temporary". I'm damn tired. Just so, so damn tired. It's a temporary problem from the outside if you're someone who judges without using empathy to discover the why behind the suicidal feelings. It's far from temporary if you're in the body dealing with the problem, because you actually know what it's like and you're the one living the experience. People who say it's temporary need to spend a day in the other person's shoes so they realize it's far from temporary. Most people who have suicidal thoughts don't have them suddenly, they happen because after months and years it feels like the best and only solution, so it's definitely not temporary! David it's because suicide is usually done or attempted due to the disease of depression, and it's not temporary. People who have that disease often suffer for years and years with it, often their whole life. Perhaps they mean temporary because it can be managed? Everybody is different, so I'm not saying that my experiences are universal, but when I was at my worst before I got help, I couldn't imagine that I would ever enjoy anything again. It took years and years to find a treatment that worked for me, but in the face of the decades I can still live with relative normalcy, the darkest times were temporary.

It might come across as ignorant, but the intention behind it is to tell people to hold on, because it can get better. It is. There is help for those with depression, there are reasons to keep on living, there are medications that can help, but no one can find them or get help for you, you have to do it yourself. If a difficult struggle but to give up is the cowards way out.
That is what the phrase means.
You have to want to be helped to get the help you need. If you're using depression as a reason not to get help, then no one can help you, because you have to reach out to get the help you need. It is temporary IF the person gets the right kind of help. Which may include therapy & meds. I've been there in my darkest Splatoon 2 World Championship Shirt held a firearm but 2 things kept be from doing it. 1) what would become of my cats? 2) how would it make my dad feel when he found me? Suicide is the selfish way out. Those people only think ab themselves & that's what the poem is trying to say in a more empathetic way. I don't think it's meant as temporary like "you'll be better in a few days tops". It's temporary if it doesn't take your life, even if it takes years and years to overcome. It's only permanent when the person suffering dies. It's like one of those phrases that can't be read by it's surface, you have to look deeper into it's meaning, as is usually the case with poems. It is upsetting when depression, suicide, etc get treated lightly or dismissed entirely, I don’t know if I explained this well, even with my own experience, but I really don't think it meant Fa Thor Like A Dad Just Way Cooler Shirt. Dave Yoho it's the Teacher Shark Shirt, they're too afraid to get help, they're too afraid to do what is needed to help themselves, so they decide to kill themselves, because it's easier than having to deal with having to manage it for the rest of their life, or having to deal with the issue that caused the depression, in some cases. What is it called when someone purposely avoids doing the things they need to do because they're scared or think it might be too hard? Nothing good, that's for sure. You can't expect to get help without actively seeking it, and if you don't want help, it'll never work anyways. I realize that people have reasons to feel that way, but the cold reality still remains that no one can do it for them. They have to want and reach out for help to get it.
If we kill ourselves, death is little more than running away, if we live on and die naturally, death is a reward, a final, unending rest after a hard life.
