The mcu is starting to suck. Yes that is how it works. In the mcu that's exactly how it works. So what if the comics are different. In the civil war comics cap dies and yet in mcu he lives. Groot has always been so people thought he was more than one since he’s been around since the start of all. Groot was part of a planet of people just like him and they were all connected and all known as "groot". This smaller plant is still connected so of course you can argue that a new connection to a hive mind is still that same person. You'd think that something that has been around since "the start" would know how to put a simple sentence together 😂 and no if every but of Groot is destroyed leaving nothing left then there is nothing for him to return with. If there is a bit of him left and it is looked after just as Rocket looked after the his piece of Groot then sure he can grow again over time as a normal plant/tree would when you take a bit of it and re-plant it. He isn't a sentient being. Adam William Smith his Logic Rick And Morty Shirt allow him to regenerate his entire form. It is groot his power literally allows him to come back to life zD it’s right on marvels site with groots powers and back story. Shemiah Ashby groot is able to speak dude...
