They didn’t specifically say, “Let’s hit this giant iceberg.” They just couldn’t see it. I feel bad for all of you afraid by our amazing Let Me Check My Nope Nothing Shirt, it’s one of the most liberating experiences I’ve ever had, it’s like a different world on and under the water. Not really because I️ didn’t care enough to be exact. It’s called a ball park, the technology didn’t change drastically from 1912 to 1918 and just further proves my point of them not having adequate weather technology yes it is, but letting fear restrict you from having fun and doing what would bring you joy isn’t the kind of life I want to live. Will I go out knowing there’s a serve storm? No. But there’s always a chance of disaster and I wouldn’t let that stop me. I'm a marine engineer/sailor who is currently in Japan. Good for you! Water is 75% of this world and we explore it. People who are afraid of the sea, clearly have never been out to sea except on cruise lines. Which cruise lines have very specific paths they take to avoid disasters like so. Thanks for the comment. It was comical to see all the responses. Btw. The titanic also never had double hulls, water tight hydrologic doors, or bow thrusters to avoid taking on water. Yes there is a difference, but I really didn’t think people would care enough. He also used radar but that’s besides the point. There are a few different stories. One popular one is that the captain was pressured into lighting the last boilers that weren't being used to try to get to their destination early. This was his retirement voyage. Who knows if he hadn't done that, might of been a different outcome. But ice is not uncommon for that time of year still, so. . .who knows word that there were icebergs but not a massive one dead in their path. Once he realized it was too late and they thought it was unsinkable. And most cruise lines don’t run that close to icebergs anymore .You cannot even compare the ship building and nautical equipment between 1912 and today. You might as well compare cro-magnon and modern day homo-sapiens.

They did have weather forecasting in 1912. On the night the ship sank they had been coded the weather forecast from other ships in the area that went before it. It was a clear night with not a single cloud in the sky, and not even wind. This meant the water was relatively still with barely any waves. All this combined made the horizon invisable (as the clear sky reflected on the still ocean) and the iceburgs harder to spot due to their being no waves to break at the base of the iceburgs. In hindsight, if the Titanic has collided head first with the iceburg, which it would have done without the orders from the crew, it'd have never sunk. HOWEVER, although this tragedy occured, it revolutionalised how class systems, safety for passangers, and insurance payments worked for those effected. Policies and laws that still effect us to this day. You find being on a cruise liner on the ocean is liberating?

You probably think Sbarro is the best pizza in New York too. A cruise like that is pretty rare. To say you won't go on a cruise because this might happen is like saying you won't go to California because there might be earthquakes; like saying you won't go to Kansas because there might be tornados; like saying you won't go to Florida because there might be hurricanes. This Let Me Check My Nope Nothing Shirt is definitely the anomaly and is not representative of all cruises. Been there done that. Was pretty fun.
