What could go wrong? “We want a new PT test! This current one doesn’t properly measure strength and doesn’t determine who’s fit for combat! It’s not fair an old guy or a woman can get a high score for doing less push ups!”

*Army publishes new PT test*
“This will be so time consuming! It’ll cost too much! PROFILES!!!!!”

Some of y’all will literally complain about anything. Yeah he ran like a 10 something though didn’t he? Problem is, people that run 10-11 are usually the skinniest mfers I don’t see them deadlifting 400 something. My max ever was 405...thinking of trying to do 400+ 7-8 years older? No way. Especially with all my injuries. Doesn't cost $12k for the equipment needed for this unless they plan on spending 10k of it on a dexa scan to accurately assess body fat and lbm. Doesn't cost 12k to get the equipment for this. I know. I've often looked at costs associated with furnishing an entire gym. The equipment here isn't even enough to do that.

Go back to basic training test like the 70s. Run, push-ups, sit-ups, crabwalk, agility test, monkey bars. Overall strength, endurance, fitness. Because it got you in shape. So many military recruits today can't pass hand grenade test, problems with shin splints. Doesn't have to be same as then, but has to at least measure overall conditioning. In shape to go from basic, to AIT, to war. And be ready for it. Grenades and PT ? Army dropped grenade test from requirement to graduate basic. Too many recruits couldn't throw it far enough ! So I guess the PT didn't work for them. Commanders complain of new recruits being out of shape(condition), not trained, prepared for combat. New technology has helped, changed a lot. But still have to be physically ready. Doesn't make sense, but that's how it used to be. You trained with what you would use. Don't remember a shin splints problem back then. Common now. Maybe also because kids don't grow up nearly as active as in the past. Computers, Xbox, etc. I think that contributes to shin splint problem today. Trav Lee because we don’t fight wars in running shoes! Last I checked when I was deployed i spent most my days in my boots not my running shoes. The grenade course wasn't built around distance. It was fire and maneuver, plus throwing accuracy (did you get your grenades into the bunker, foxhole, trench, etc...) If you can't throw it more than 30 feet from cover.... Don't throw it! Definitely still required in basic idk where you got your info from, just like Keith said it’s more about accuracy not how far you can just lob a grenade. Combat boots and fatigue pants... Never a problem from one soldier in basic except for one troop broke his foot on a metal drainage cover... First trip to PX I bought a six pack of Dr Sholes and tossed those plastic things... Trav Lee what are you going to do in combat if you need to run, say "time out, got to change into my running shoes!"? I think not! We don’t need more PT. We need to focus on things that are super important to combat readiness. Things like SHARP, Accident Avoidance, pt belts and SSD.

Are you green on dental, guy? So if we pass this one can we finally get rid of height and weight its retarted when soldiers get a great pt score And get flagged for weight. I have been in for 27 years and have seen few if any cases of a Soldier who scored well, above a 250, on the APFT then was flagged for HT/WT. I wont argue that the tape test is flawed but I dont think many Soldiers who are in decent shape cannot pass it.
