economy in 2007-2008 and instead of the perpetrators going to prison, they received billions in
bailouts. I know the media is doing all they can to discredit Bernies ideas but they are among the

copy of Canada's system. In any healthcare system whether it is private or managed by the
government there will be trade offs. The question is what people are willing to live with. In the
system we have now, its destroyed through unlimited greed and price gouging where a visit to
the ER cost on average 1500 dollars even if the the only thing they do is hand you a bottle of
aspirin and an ice pack. Americans are overcharged by their insurers, hospital networks, and
their doctors. The underlying premise is how much profit can we extract from the patient even it
kills the patient. The first thing you are asked isn't how you are feeling but is how you are going
to pay. We already have socialized medicine through Tricare where servicemembers receive
subsidized healthcare courtesy of the American taxpayer. I should know I enjoyed 'free'
healthcare when I served in the Army. We could take the same program and deliver this for the
28-30 million Americans who can't afford insurance through their employer or on their own.

Once healthcare becomes a manageable expense instead of a financial burden then it will
radically transform our economy. But we will have to take the long term approach over short
term results like quarterly profit reports and corporate balance sheets. If our elected leaders can
get free healthcare courtesy of the American taxpayer why can't the American voter have the
