It’s very sad that this dog wasn’t trained. The responsibility falls on the owners. Any dog needs training and socialization from an early age. I send my condolences to this woman’s family. Let's not forget about the woman who was mauled to death by a group of daschunds at a pet day care facility. It isn't just pit bulls, it can happen with any breed of dog given the living conditions it was raised in. It's so sad that ignorant people own such wonderful animals and the dogs ALWAYS pay the price for their owners shortcomings; but yet the owners don't get charged for it or they just get a slap on the wrist and end up getting a new dog. It's tragic that someone lost their life because of this but at the same time it's not the dogs fault. He/she did not know better and they did exactly what their owner trained them to do. I owned a pit that was returned to a shelter 4 different times because of his behavior. Once we had him and taught him how to be a "normal" dog he was the most amazing animal ever; a gentle giant. And this dog had been through the worst of the worst. Besides the obvious scars, chunks of ear skin missing, chipped teeth, he had also been shot, which we didn't know till an x-ray showed years later.

This dog, our dog Bruno, loved everyone unconditionally through all the shit he went through. So...QUIT BLAMING THE DOG!!! Hold the irresponsible pieces of shit accountable instead. Anyone who thinks the dog is inherently bad is wrong. Anyone trying to say pitbulls are evil is dumb. Bad owners create bad dogs. My dog is part wild dog (didn’t know it when I got her) and she can’t be around people that she doesn’t consider her pack so you know what I do? I keep my damn dog safely away from strangers and I take her to a brilliant trainer to do everything we can to fix the behavior. Yes but at that point it is an owners responsibility to keep their dog safe and other people safe as well. The second my newly adopted puppy started to show borderline aggressive behaviors towards strangers I got her evaluated, found her a trainer, and stopped allowing her in situations that weren’t safe. If I hadn’t been in a position to do all of that I would have found her someone that could.
